Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band & Beth Hart
Guitarist and songsmith Kenny Wayne Shepherd blends modern blues and
rock and is credited with awakening a renewed interest in the blues
genre. Shepherd and his band have sold millions of albums and released
top-10 hits, including “Slow Ride,” “In 2 Deep” and the No. 1 hit “Blue
on Black.”
He performs
live at Hoyt Sherman Place with Grammy- nominated singersongwriter
Beth Hart. A digital download of Kenny Wayne Shepherd’s new album “Lay
It On Down” is included with every ticket.

14th Annual Oktoberfest Des Moines
Everyone is German, at least for the day, at Oktoberfest. Des Moines’
annual celebration, held in the Historic Court Avenue District, promises
to be bigger than ever, with fun scheduled at the Hofbrau Rooftop Bier
Garden, Craft Beer Village and Lederhosen Lounge. Kick it off with the
Tapping of the Golden Keg at 3 p.m.
Friday and stick around for the Bier Maiden Contest at 9. Throughout
the weekend, enjoy live entertainment, free polka lessons, stein
holding competitions, German food and more. Tickets are $10 at the door
and include a commemorative mug.
Bring back the mug Saturday for $5 admission.

Masterworks 1: Season Debut — Invitation to the Dance
The Des Moines Symphony, under the direction of Joseph Giunta, opens
its 80th season, “Music in Motion,” with Weber’s Invitation to the
Dance, followed by a performance of Bruch’s beloved Violin Concerto No.
1 in G Minor, featuring two-time Grammy
nominee Jennifer Frautschi. The Season Debut will conclude with
Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances. 7:30 p.m. Saturday, 2:30 p.m. Sunday
at Des Moines Civic Center, 221 Walnut St. Single tickets are $15-$65 or

Broken Social Scene
The Indie rock collective hailing from Toronto Broken Social Scene
makes a stop at Hoyt Sherman Place on tour with their newest album Hug
of Thunder. The group is partnering with Plus 1, so $1 from every ticket
will go toward providing access to arts education for young people in
disadvantaged communities.

Emmylou Harris
Country legend Emmylou Harris has won 13 Grammy Awards, a Billboard
Century Award and has been inducted into the Country Music Hall of
Fame. In her 40-plus years as a singer, she has collaborated with many
different artists, including Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton.
