Exhibit: Hava Hegenbarth: Capturing the Natural World - Charles H. MacNider Art Museum(Center Space Gallery), 303 2nd St. SE (641-421-3666). The Charles H. MacNider Art Museum is pleased to highlight the whimsical images created by Mason City artist, Hava Hegenbarth.  Hava Hagenbarth: Capturing The Natural World, includes 29 prints and drawings.  Hagenbarth’s artwork, featuring an assortment of animals and natural landscapes, will transport the viewer to the continent of Africa without leaving North Iowa. Hegenbarth is retired from the U.S. Foreign Service where she served primarily in Africa.  She always had a love and talent for art but pursued other interests in her career.  She now has the free time to create the art she loves and share it with Museum visitors.  Exhibit will be on display until September 23, 2017 - open during normal museum hours. https://macniderart.org/

Exhibit: Vibrant Bounty:  Chinese Folk Art from the Shaanxi Region- Charles H. MacNider Art Museum(Kinney-Lindstrom Gallery), 303 2nd St. SE (641-421-3666). As brilliant as the petals of a lotus and as bold as a spring storm, these folk paintings and artifacts of rural China reveal a national spirit that is as charming as it is vital. By depicting scenes of labor within lavish pastoral settings, the paintings celebrate the farmers’ unity amidst the immensity of nature. The artifacts in Vibrant Bounty reveal a humanity that aids us in understanding a people half a world away. Vibrant Bounty: Chinese Folk Art from the Shaanxi Region is a program of  ExhibitsUSA, a national division of Mid-America Arts Alliances and The National Endowment for the Arts. Leet Drawing Class - Charles H. MacNider Art Museum, 303 2nd St. SE (641-421-3666). Drawing is the foundation for creative expression in the visual arts and here is an opportunity to enjoy an intense drawing experience.  This fast-paced, in-depth workshop, based on the teachings of Kimon Nicolaides' in his book, "The Natural Way to Draw," will be taught by Mason City artist, Richard Leet.  Richard will introduce and demonstrate various concepts and techniques and lead participants in trying their hands on dozens of basic drawing exercises that can be key to further success and growth in all visual art mediums.  Drawing paper will be provided as will be a variety drawing mediums, however, students may want to bring along any drawing mediums of their own liking e.g. crayons, colored chalk, charcoal, markers, ball point or rolling ball pens, pencils, etc. Event time: 9am-4pm (1 hour lunch break).
