Bruce Wasenius: My Column for July

My wife and I decided to take a few days and go somewhere and do something different this past week. Where we went and what we did wasn't as important as just doing something other than the usual without the rest of the family.
This time of year always reminds me of the summers of my youth in the early 1960's and the way we got away for from a weekend to a week or more when my dad was on vacation.
One of the places we loved to visit was a small cabin my grandparents had on a small chain of lakes in Northern Minnesota. It didn't have any plumbing so the outhouse and the pump on the hill were always on use. Fishing and wandering through the woods was totally different from the city and suburbs. We would occasionally cross the border and go onto Canada or to Duluth or Two Harbors.
We made our own fun and were never bored.
Things are a lot different now, but we can still find enjoyment in just doing something out of the usual just for the experience.
Enjoy the summer, make some memories of your own
